Resume : Dans les années 20, au Japon... L'industrialisation du pays fait rage, tandis qu'en Russie, la Révolution vient de s'achever. Au port de Hakodate, c'est l'effervescence : le bateau-usine s'apprête à partir en mer, pour pêcher des crabes qui seront revendus à prix d'or. Mais les ouvriers-pécheurs ne se doutent pas encore du destin qui les attend... Exploités, battus et spoliés par Asakawa, l'intendant du navire qui ne pense qu'aux bénéfices de l'entreprise qu'il représente, ils vivront un véritable enfer quotidien. Pourtant, quand le bateau échappe au naufrage, grâce à l'aide d'un chalutier russe, les esprits commencent à s'échauffer. Un jeune étudiant, influencé par les romans de Dostoïevski, décide de prendre la tête d'un mouvement de rébellion... La grève est ouverte !
